Practical information

Keflavík Airport is 52 kilometers from Reykjavík, the easiest and cheapest way to get into Reykjavik is taking the Flybus.

The Nordic Bishops’ Conference will take place in Akureyri, which is 387 kilometres from Reykjavík. Akureyri is easily accessible by flight, bus, or car. The journey from Reykjavík, by National Route 1, takes a little under four and half hours by car.

Bus for participants (NBC bus) We are planning a bus ride for the participants tour-retour Reykjavík-Akureyri. It will leave early morning from Reykjavík on June 27th, and from Akureyri to Reykjavík on July 1st. We do not have the price for the bus fare yet, but it will be cheaper than fly, rent a car or take public transportation. If you would like to reserve a seat on this bus, please let us know on the registration form, as we have to order a bus accordingly.

Domestic flights are from Reykjavík Airport.

The registration desk at Hotel Kea will open on Monday 27 June at 11:00.

The conference will conclude with lunch on Friday 1 July.

The conference will take place at Congregations Hall of Akureyrarkirkja. You must walk the famous church stairs and count the steps.

Hólar í Hjaltadal is 127 kilometres from Akureyri and bus drive takes about one and a half hour.

The tap water is drinkable everywhere in Iceland.

Credit cards can be used almost everywhere.

Please bring with you

a pair of good walking shoes

a warm jacket for the summer evenings

an umbrella

a swimsuit for GEO SEA

The dress code is smart casual. However, please also bring your suit (with clerical collar) for evening programmes (Dress code: Bishop's shirt, Business Attire). For Thursday’s bus trip, more relaxed dress will be fine – and keep in mind it may be windy.

The registration is closed.

How to get to Akureyri?

When you land in Keflavik Airport, the easiest and cheapest way to get to Reykjavik is by taking a Flybus. You can buy tickets on board the aircraft on your way over, or on the bus itself.
Flybus schedules are available here: https://www.re.is/tour/flybus/ and here: https://grayline.is/airport-bus-transfer  Taxi to Reykjavik is also available.
To get from Reykjavik to Akureyri, you can rent a car, take a bus (Stræto) or fly.

Bus for participants (NBC bus)

We are planning a bus ride for the participants tour-retour Reykjavík-Akureyri.

Rent a car
There are many car rentals in Iceland if you search the internet. Here are few:
https://www.holdur.is/en
https://www.hertz.is
https://akureyrirentacar.is

By flight
Information on Domestic flights are here: http://www.flugfelag.is flights are from Reykjavík Airport.
From Akureyri airport to Hotel KEA it takes about 6 minutes with Taxi (3,4 km).

By bus
Information on buses are available here:
https://www.straeto.is/
Here you must choose “Vestur- og Norðurland” and pick route number 57 (Akureyri – Sauðárkrókur – Blönduós – Borgarnes – Akranes – Reykjavík). On that site you have to scroll down and find: Reykjavik-Akranes-Borgarnes-Blönduós-Sauðárkrókur-Akureyri, as your place of departure is Reykjavík (probably place called “Mjódd”), and your destination is Akureyri – Hof.
It takes about 6,5 hours by bus from Reykjavik to Akureyri (usually it takes around 5 hours by personal car), as the bus must take different detours. It takes about 50 minutes to fly from Reykjavik to Akureyri. So flight is absolutely the easiest way to get to Akureyri.
